Floor slab survey for load capacity

We were recently instructed to undertake a structural floor slab survey for back analysis of the slab to determine its load capacity.

The following information was required from the survey:

  • Thickness of the slab
  • Reinforcement size (from break outs)
  • Pile locations of the piles
  • Punching shear reinforcement above the piles

In the photo, we have a GPR surveyor in the background undertaking a survey of the whole floor, to map thickness, pile locations, and the general reinforcement layout. The surveyor in the foreground is about to undertake detailed scanning on a regular orthogonal grid with scans at 100mm centres to determine the punching shear reinforcement above a previously located pile.

For this survey, we used GSSI SIR 3000 and 4000 control units and 2.6GHz and 1.5GHz antennas.

Having completed the site survey in under a day, several days of data analysis and presentation will follow. A preliminary look at the information indicates that we have all the information the client requires for their calculations.
